Did You Ever Eat a Bat?

It began life as a live piece for 3 flutes and stereo tape; then it was reimagined as a purely acousmatic piece diffused through four speakers; now, here is the stereo remix of the quad version of... 'Did You Ever Eat a Bat?'

(note: there's a lot of energy in the bass, so it might do to turn up your speakers. Like the man said, THIS FILM SHOULD BE PLAYED LOUD).

Down, down, down. Would the fall never come to an end! There was nothing else to do, so Alice soon began talking again. 'Dinah my dear! I wish you were down here with me! There are no mice in the air, I'm afraid, but you might catch a bat, and that's very like a mouse, you know. But do cats eat bats, I wonder?'

She felt that she was dozing off, and had just begun to dream that she was walking hand in hand with Dinah, and saying to her very earnestly, `Now, Dinah, tell me the truth: did you ever eat a bat?' when suddenly, thump! thump! down she came upon a heap of sticks and dry leaves, and the fall was over.

And as an extra-added bonus spectacular, here's the piece being played in quad at my final recital:

MonoPd in action

Hey there crazy crew. I know, I know, I've been away for a while, right? I regret that. Really, I do. I mean, we all lead busy lives and, Zeus only knows, sometimes it can be difficult for us to make time for each other. But, hey. You and me, we go back. Waayy back. And our relationship - this understanding we have? It's not something you find every day.

What I'm trying to say is, I miss you. And I want you back. I hope you feel the same way.

As a peace offering, here's a video of people playing around with the first prototype version of MonoPd. Click through to read more!
